A Heritage Christmas

Every December, hundreds of residents of Harrisonburg City and the surrounding Rockingham County make A Heritage Christmas part of their Christmas traditions. The small strength and beauty of candles in the still and silent darkness allows visitors a respite from the hubbub of commercialized Christmas chaos as they reflect on the experience of Advent preparations as they might have taken place 100 years ago. Join us this year on December 14 from 2 PM to 6 PM. Admission fees (adults - $10, students - $5, children 5 and under - free) support the ongoing work of the Brethren & Mennonite Heritage Center.

In addition to the traditional candlelight tour, this year's celebration includes hands-on family crafts, live music and singing, and wonderful holiday refreshments.

Come make:

Pine needle sachets;
Clove and orange ornaments;
Old-fashioned paper tree ornaments;
Christmas cookies;
Popcorn and cranberry chain;
and Christmas wreaths and swags.

And enjoy:

Storytelling;
Treats from Father Christmas;
Christmas singalongs;
and Instrumentalists in historic 19th century buildings

We are disappointed that we will not be able to offer the horse-drawn carriage rides as we intended this year; the driver is sick and does not wish to sit in the rain for four hours (and we don't want to make him sicker)!

If you would like to make additional donations to the Heritage Center and receive a tax-receipt, please make checks payable to the "Brethren & Mennonite Heritage Center," and make sure your check includes an address at which you receive mail.
