Worship in the Woods is the summer vespers series of the Brethren & Mennonite Heritage Center. Join us Sundays at 7 PM from June 27 through August 15 in our beautiful, outdoor, wooded amphitheater!
Please bring your own lawn chair for seating. An offering will be taken to support the ongoing mission of the Heritage Center. Parking is available in the field at the top of our hill. Golf cart assistance is available for those who wish it; if handicap parking is needed at the bottom of the amphitheater, please request it when you arrive.
In case of inclement weather, the service will be moved to the Log House and parking signs will be relocated to that area.
Our service on July 25 will feature Sara Halteman as speaker, with Vocal Chords providing special music.
Sara Halteman is a native of the Shenandoah Valley and has been involved with EMU since age 5 when she began taking music lessons in the preparatory music program. Following high school she received a Certificate in Biblical Studies from Rosedale Bible College and a B.S. in Business Administration from EMU. Sara managed a local fair trade retail store before returning to EMU to work in the teacher education department. She began working as EMU's Institutional Effectiveness and Accreditation Specialist in 2018. Outside of work Sara enjoys spending time with her husband and two sons, is passionate about music, and is an active member of Zion Mennonite Church in Broadway, VA.
Created out of the Brethren Four by Jim Benedict and Richard Phillips, the Vocal Chords is a group of 7 men who enjoy singing. Programming gospel, barbershop, and traditional hymns, the group includes Jim Benedict, David Holl, Bob May, Richard Phillips, Fred Schwartz, Wayne Spangler, and Merv Wonderlick. Lorene May plays piano and Jim Benedict is the music director for the group. And they are always looking for new singers to join the group!
