Worship in the Woods

  • Brethren & Mennonite Heritage Center 1921 Heritage Center Way Harrisonburg, VA, 22801 United States (map)

Worship in the Woods is the summer vespers series of the Brethren & Mennonite Heritage Center. Join us Sundays at 7 PM from July 12 through August 9 in our beautiful, outdoor, wooded amphitheater!

Our service on July 19 will feature John Jantzi as speaker, and those present will be invited, as they are able, to join in singing from the Harmonia Sacra.

John Jantzi was born in 1951 in Au Gres, Michigan, along the shores of Lake Huron. He graduated from Au Gres Sims High School, Eastern Mennonite College, Eastern Mennonite Seminary, and Union Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Richmond, Virginia.

John is married to Bonita, and they have two children, Katie and Adam, and one grandchild, Eleanor.

For the past twenty-five years, John has ministered in the Church of the Brethren as pastor and later as District Executive Minister of the Shenandoah District, from which he retired in 2025. John has also served as an adjunct instructor at Eastern Mennonite University.

John’s interests include reading, walking, baseball card collecting, and fishing. Currently, John is serving as half-time interim pastor at Dayton Church of the Brethren.

Please bring your own lawn chair for seating. An offering will be taken to support the ongoing mission of the Heritage Center. Parking is available in the field at the top of our hill. Golf cart assistance is available for those who wish it; if handicap parking is needed at the bottom of the amphitheater, please request it when you arrive.

In case of inclement weather, the service will be moved to the Pavilion.
