Join us this evening at Harrisonburg First Church of the Brethren for the annual meeting of the Brethren & Mennonite Heritage Center, an evening of good food, fellowship, singing, reporting, laughter, and vision for the future!
A highlight of the evening has been the homestyle cooking of Marjorie Rohrer Shank, and guests at this year’s event will not be disappointed.
In recognition of this centennial celebration for Mennonite Central Committtee, our keynote speaker will be Dr. Alain Epp Weaver, whose address is entitled “Mennonite Central Committee: A Century-Long Witness for Peace.”
Dr. Alain Epp Weaver has directed Mennonite Central Committee’s strategic planning and learning efforts since 2009. Prior to that he worked with MCC for eleven years in multiple parts of the Middle East, including as director of MCC’s programs in Palestine-Israel, Jordan, and Iraq. Alain holds a Ph.D. in theology from the University of Chicago and is the author and editor of several books, including Inhabiting the Land: Theologies of the Palestinian-Israeli Conflict (Cascade 2018), Mapping Exile and Return: Palestinian Dispossession and a Political Theology for a Shared Future (Fortress 2014), and A Table of Sharing: Mennonite Central Committee and Expanding Networks of Mennonite Identity (Cascadia 2010). Alain lives in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, is married to Sonia Weaver, and has two adult children.
Alain writes: “While my parents both came from Mennonite communities in the plains of the U.S., I grew up and was baptized in a Church of the Brethren congregation in Lincoln, Nebraska, and so have a fondness for Pietist/Dunker streams of the Christian faith.”
During his presentation, Alain will highlight multiple MCC-Church of the Brethren connections across MCC’s history that will be new to many, so be sure to attend for this enlightening and encouraging address.
