Worship in the Woods is the summer vespers series of the Brethren & Mennonite Heritage Center. Join us Sundays at 7 PM from June 25 through August 6 in our beautiful, outdoor, wooded amphitheater!
Our service on July 2 will feature Deb Horst as speaker, with the Inner Harmony quartet providing special music.
Deb and her husband Bob moved to Harrisonburg in August 2013 from Dalton, OH. They were married in 1982 and have three adult married children, and nine beautiful grandchildren.
Deb's first career was as an LPN, and then as a homemaker. Deb's home congregation affirmed her teaching and leadership gifts, and God led her to serve as Executive Director at Camp Luz in Orrville, OH from 2000-2011. During that time she completed a Master of Divinity degree through Ashland Seminary in Ashland, OH. After leaving camp ministry in 2011, she worked part-time as a Hospice Chaplain and part-time as interim pastor at Beaverdam Mennonite Church in Corry, PA. In the summer of 2013 Lindale Mennonite Church in Linville, VA extended an invitation to her to serve as Associate Pastor of Christian Formation and Youth, where she served until May 2022. Deb currently serves as pastor at Wakemans Grove Church of the Brethren in Edinburg.
Deb's hobbies include gardening, crocheting, sewing, art, being with friends, visiting thrift stores, and refinishing furniture.
Please bring your own lawn chair for seating. An offering will be taken to support the ongoing mission of the Heritage Center. Parking is available in the field at the top of our hill. Golf cart assistance is available for those who wish it; if handicap parking is needed at the bottom of the amphitheater, please request it when you arrive.
In case of inclement weather, the service will be moved to the Log House and parking signs will be relocated to that area.
