Worship in the Woods is the summer vespers series of the Brethren & Mennonite Heritage Center. Join us Sundays at 7 PM from June 22 through August 10 in our beautiful, outdoor, wooded amphitheater!
Our service on July 27 will feature Barbara Moyer Lehman as speaker, with the Blue Ridge Threshold Choir providing special music.
Barbara Moyer Lehman is a retired Mennonite pastor who served for 31 years in pastoral ministry in two different congregations. She and her husband, John, were co-pastors of the Orrville Mennonite Church in OH for 14 years. They moved to Harrisonburg in 2001 where Barbara served on the pastoral team at Park View Mennonite Church for 17 years. In retirement Barbara has been active in the local Biblical Storytellers Guild, the Blue Ridge Threshold Choir and volunteers as a tour guide at the Brethren Mennonite Heritage Center. She also enjoys music, reading, pickleball and staying connected to her 3 grandkids in NC. She and her husband are actively involved in Shalom Mennonite congregation here in Harrisonburg.
The Blue Ridge Threshold Choir is a chapter of the International Threshold Choir organization, which has over 200 chapters in the US, UK and Canada. Their mission is to sing at bedsides of people at the thresholds of life, whether it be serious illnesses, stressful situations, in hospice or palliative care and/or at the threshold of death. They bring small groups to sing in private homes, hospitals or retirement center, wherever they are invited. All members are volunteers, and there is no fee for their services, although donations are suggested if they sing at memorial or funeral services. Their motto is “Kindness Made Audible,” and they consider it an honor to bring comfort to those for whom they sing. For more information, visit their website at https://thresholdchoir.org/BlueRidge/.
Please bring your own lawn chair for seating. An offering will be taken to support the ongoing mission of the Heritage Center. Parking is available in the field at the top of our hill. Golf cart assistance is available for those who wish it; if handicap parking is needed at the bottom of the amphitheater, please request it when you arrive.
In case of inclement weather, the service will be moved to the Log House and parking signs will be relocated to that area.
